Antares
Antares is an exceptional example of the tropical night blooming water lily. It is a non-viviparous, free-flowering red tropical water lily. One of the most spectacular pond plants with large red magenta blooms. Flower shape is cup-like. The center or sepal color is dark rosy red. The top of their round leaves are green but the newest leaves start out bronzy with green veins with the underside a reddish brown.
Antares – Strong Fragrance and Easily Noticed
Antares has a very strong fragrance. Easily noticed through out the yard. This water lily amazes by opening a few hours before dusk and staying open well into the following morning. Antares is one of the deepest red found within the tropical night blooming water lilies. The name Antares is the largest star and red in the constellation Scorpius and thus the name selected to represent this gorgeous hybrid. This is a very beautiful hybrid developed at the well known Longwood Gardens, PA.
Antares will definitely stand out in any water garden as a master of the evening and night! Most aquatic plants will be all closed up in the evening but night blooming tropical water lilies are an excellent choice for anyone who likes to enjoy their water garden after hours.
Koi pond lovers will find that the stems of most night blooming tropicals are very thick and durable and much less vulnerable to water lily eating Koi.
