White Lotus

Empress Lotus

 

The “Empress” or Alba Striata  are beautiful Lotus plants. They are a whitish bloom with gentle strokes of pinkish colors on the edges of the petals. These plants can grow up to five feet tall in perfect conditions. The empress lotus flower bursts into a wide white rose-shaped blossom when in full bloom. As all pond plant life will, the Lotus flower will increase the oxygen in the air. It is also a great way to enhance your  pond and / or landscape design with a water plant which best suits your personal taste.

Their growth spans the seasons, as winter’s withered brown leaves make way for spring’s quick growth, and then summer’s short-lived flowers, followed by their signature seed pods.  Individual flowers remain effective for about a week.

All buds don’t open simultaneously, so the overall peak season of bloom of the collection lasts for about two weeks.

EMPRESS Lotus are still quite Rare. Double to semi-double white petals that are streaked with Deep Pink. Every Flower has a different pattern, no two are ever the same.  This lotus will easily become the most talked about specimen in any water garden. Like all lotus, it is fragrant and very cold hardy. (zone 5) Lotus, once established, are almost indestructible. Lotus are perhaps the most spectacular pond plant in aquatic environments. The Chinese say that, once having seen the growing lotus, you never forget it.  The lotus flowers have color from red, pink, pale yellow to snow white. A separate, long, tubular stalk supports each flower and each large round leaf.   Lotus are generally started inside  in late winter so that they bloom the same year.

• Flowers are 10 to 12 inches across.
• Flowers are white edged with pinkish-red
• Grows 4 to 5′ tall
• Leaves grow 18 to 20 inches across
• Good for any size pond
• Hardy zone 4 or higher, less than 4 with winter protection
